December 29, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release
TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight is the third and final meeting this season between the Adirondack Thunder and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. The previous two meetings came back in November, which the teams split, with the home team winning each game. The Thunder come into tonight's game looking to bounce back and find the net after they registered 44 shots in Sunday's 2-0 loss at Manchester. The Swamp Rabbits come in riding a four-game point streak, with three wins in a row before they fell in OT against the Atlanta Gladiators on Sunday.
BEAST OF AN EAST: With 36 points thus far on the season, Adirondack is in a three way tie for fifth in the Eastern Conference, however the Thunder are only eight points out of first place with six games in hand. Tuesday's game is the first of seven games over the next twelve days for Adirondack, where the team will look to gain some ground and climb back towards the top of the standings.
ALL THE FIELDS: Thunder netminder Drew Fielding has been stellar in limited action this season. The Burlington, ONT native has made five appearances, including four starts, where he is 4-0 with two shutouts, and has only allowed five goals on the year, contributing to a .960 save percentage. His most recent appearance came on Saturday at home against Manchester, where he made 27 saves in the team's 6-1 victory.
OPEN MIKE: Michael Kirkpatrick has continued to impress in his rookie campaign this season. The North Sydney, NS native has amassed 24 points thus far, pairing his 11 goals with 13 assists. His 11 goals are tied for second amongst rookie scorers, his 24 points places him fifth for first year players and he is just outside of the top 20 in league-wide scoring leaders.
HEARDLY KNEW YA: Adirondack has lost forward Mitchell Heard, as the high scoring center was recalled to the AHL's Stockton Heat on Sunday morning. The Ontario native appeared in his first AHL contest of the season on Sunday and collected three shots on goal in Stockton's 5-1 loss to San Jose. Heard left the Thunder as the team's second leading scorer with 23 points (9-14-23) from 23 games played. Heard also led all Thunder skaters with 71 penalty minutes and is tied for second with a +13 rating.
HOME COOKIN: The Thunder have enjoyed a lot of success playing at the Glens Falls Civic Center so far in 2015. Through ten games, Adirondack is 7-2-1 for 15 points, good for a .750 winning percentage, which is the best point percentage in the Eastern Conference, trailing only Missouri and Quad City league wide.
HIT US WITH YOUR MOST SHOTS: The Thunder have the ECHL's best record this season when they are outshot by their opponents, coming in at 10-1-1, good for a .875 winning percentage. Adirondack is one of two teams with double digit wins when being outshot and are also one of two teams with just one loss.
