NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals were held scoreless for the second straight game in a 3-0 defeat to the Atlanta Gladiators at Infinite Energy Arena on Tuesday night.
After more than 31 minutes of scoreless hockey, Justin Buzzeo put Atlanta on the board first with a one-timer in the slot. The Gladiators cycled the puck around the top of the Admirals zone to the left edge with Tyler Shiplo just outside the circle. Shiplo one-touched a pass into the middle of the Admirals' defense for Buzzeo who put the feed in the back of the net at 11:44 of the second.
Atlanta lit the lamp again at 12:35 when Brad Navin slipped behind the Admirals' defense to walk in alone on Norfolk goalie Nic Riopel. Navin went top shelf to the right side for the 2-0 lead a minute and four seconds before Garry Nunn sealed the victory with a power-play goal at 13:39.
Brock Higgs added an empty-netter with 30 seconds left in regulation to complete a 4-0 shutout win for Gladiators goalie Matt Ginn who made 35 saves. Riopel denied 22 of 25 opportunities for Atlanta. As for special teams, Norfolk allowed two power-play goals on five chances for the Gladiators while Atlanta killed off all four man advantages for the Admirals.
Norfolk gets another shot at Atlanta on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. inside Infinite Energy Arena.
