Game Notes: December 29 vs Indy

Overview: The Cincinnati Cyclones return home to take on the Indy Fuel, in the first of two home games this week. The Cyclones are coming off of a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Evansville IceMen on Saturday night, in a game in which Cincinnati surrendered a 2-0 lead.

Saturday Recap: The Cincinnati Cyclones (13-9-2-2) fell to the Evansville IceMen, 4-2, on Saturday night. Forwards Andrew Yogan and Mike Hammond scored the lone goals for the Cyclones. Cincinnati was outshot, 51-19 on the night, with Neil Conway stopping 47 in the loss.

Last Sunday Recap: The Cincinnati Cyclones (13-8-2-2) picked up a 6-1 win over the Wichita Thunder on Sunday evening. Forwards Zach Budish and Branden Gracel each had a pair of goals, while forwards Christiaan Minella and Joe Wilson each added lone tallies for the Cyclones, who snap their two-game losing streak. Neil Conway was stellar in net, stopping 15 of the 16 shots he faced to collect his first win as a Cyclone. The Cyclones outshot the Thunder, 35-16, while the power play converted on one-of-five chances.

Last Saturday Recap: The Cincinnati Cyclones (12-8-2-2) fell to the Missouri Mavericks, 3-2, on Saturday night. Forward Seth Ambroz, and defenseman Cody Carlson scored the goals for the Cyclones, who controlled much of the final 40 minutes of play. The Cyclones were outshot, 34-31, on the night, with goaltender Neil Conway stopping 31 of the shots he faced in the loss. Cincinnati's power play was held scoreless on all three attempts.

Previewing Indy: The Fuel, who have won their last two games and three out of the last four, are coming off of a 2-1 win over the Quad City Mallards on Sunday afternoon. Despite their two-game winning streak, the Fuel have struggled since late November, dropping nine straight from November 22- December 10, and posting a 4-12-1-0 record in their last 17 games. They are led in scoring by forward Alex Lavoie, who has accounted for eight goals and 16 assists this season. He is followed by forward Dylan Clarke (7g, 11a), and a pair of 17-point scorers in forwards Garett Bembridge (9g, 8a), and defenseman Ben Marshall (3g, 14a).

Inside the Series: This is the second of 11 meetings this season between the Cyclones and Fuel, with Indy taking the first game back on November 20, 2-1. Cincinnati posted a 6-2-1-0 record in 10 meetings last season, and hold a 6-3-1-0 overall record in the all-time series.

Next Game Preview: The Cyclones wrap up their two-game home stand on Thursday against the Toledo Walleye. The two teams have played twice this season, with Cincinnati posting a 1-0-0-1 record.

TOP STORYLINES

Quenneville and Weinstein Called Up: Forward Peter Quenneville has been recalled by, and defenseman Steve Weinstein has signed a professional tryout (PTO) with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL). This is the first call-up of the season for both players. A seventh round draft pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2013, Quenneville has skated in 25 games with the Cyclones this season, accounting for four goals and 12 assists in that time. Weinstein heads to the Monsters as the Cyclones' defensive scoring leader, accounting for three goals and 14 assists through 26 games. He has points in nine of his last 13 games played, tallying a goal and 11 assists in that time.

Ambroz and Noonan Receive AHL Calls: Forward Seth Ambroz (Lake Erie Monsters) and defenseman Garrett Noonan (Milwaukee Admirals) were called up to their respective American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates on Saturday. Ambroz has appeared 15 games for the Cyclones this season, accounting for a pair of goals. Noonan is second on the team in defenseman scoring, totaling three goals and nine assists through 20 games.

Racking Up the Points: Forward Andrew Yogan has been on fire since coming back from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL). He is currently riding a five game point streak, accounting for four goals and five assists in that time. Overall, he has points in eight of his last nine games, and has totaled five goals and eight assists since returning to the Cyclones.

The Road Ahead: The Cyclones are getting ready to log a ton of bus miles over the next month, with 9 of the team's next 15 games on the road, including eight-of-nine in early January. The road hasn't been too kind to Cincinnati this season, as the Cyclones have compiled a 4-8-1-0 record away from U.S. Bank Arena. Despite the struggles on the road, the Cyclones are averaging 3.41 goals per game in road contests.
