South Carolina Stingrays News Release
SOUTH DIVISION TITLE ON THE LINE
The South Carolina Stingrays look to secure the South Division Championship tonight. The Stingray enter the final two games of the regular season three points ahead of Florida for the top spot in the division. A victory for South Carolina tonight would earn the Stingrays the South Division title. Other ways the Stingrays could clinch include if Florida loses in regulation to Orlando OR South Carolina loses in overtime/shootout and Florida loses to Orlando. The Stingrays last claimed a regular season division championship during the 2013-14 season when they won the South Division with 92 points.
WATCH PARTY AT KING STREET GRILLE-NORTHWOODS
With the South Division title on the line, fans are encouraged to head to King Street Grille-Northwoods, the Watch Party Destination for Stingrays, to catch tonight's game. Fans 21 and up may enjoy a special offer of $3 Drafts, including Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, Shocktop and Landshark during all Stingrays Watch Parties at King Street Grille.
THE MATCHUP
The Stingrays end the regular season with a pair of games versus the Norfolk Admirals this weekend. The Stingrays are 4-2-0-0 versus Norfolk this season with the last two meetings coming in January in Norfolk. The Admirals topped South Carolina 8-2 on January 29, and the next night South Carolina returned the favor with a 6-1 win. The Admirals will miss the post-season, but South Carolina enters tonight's game not only looking to win the South Division, but also looking to chase down the Toledo Walleye, who lead the Stingrays by three points for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
BIG DAY FOR VITEK
Wednesday was a big day for South Carolina goaltender Vitek Vanecek. In the afternoon, Vanecek was named to the ECHL's All-Rookie Team. That evening, he stopped 24 shots to record his fourth shutout of the season and lead the Stingrays to a 3-0 win at Atlanta. Vanecek has earned league honors four times this season, being named the Rookie of the Month in November, the Goalie of the Week for March 7-13, the Goaltender of the Month for March, and to the ECHL All-Rookie Team.
DEXSHOW TO HIT 200
Goaltender Mark Dekanich's next appearance will be his 200th pro game in North America. He has played 1 NHL game, 163 AHL games and 35 ECHL games in his career.
MILESTONES FROM WEDNESDAY
The Stingrays enjoyed several milestones in Wednesday's win over Atlanta. Forward David Pacan scored his 20th goal of the season and also added an assist to score his 200th and 201st career professional points. His linemates Caleb Herbert and Austin Fyten also had a goal and an assist on milestone nights. Wednesday's contest was the 100th ECHL game of Fyten's professional career, and the 100th professional game of Herbert's career.
HERBERT ON A ROLL
Forward Caleb Herbert has five points (three goals, two assists) in his last two contests. Herbert notched a pair of goals and an assist on April 2 versus Orlando, then scored the game-winning goal, added an assist, and got into a fight in Wednesday's 3-0 win at Atlanta. Herbert has eight goals in 13 games with the Stingrays.
