Toledo, OH - Forward Shane Berschbach is the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award for 2015-16 as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors and media members.

The award is presented annually to the player who is judged to have exhibited the best sportsmanship combined with a high standard of playing ability. The 2012-13 winner of the award was Toledo Walleye forward Randy Rowe.

Berschbach, a native of Clawson, Michigan, was named to the ECHL First Team yesterday and has posted 67 points (24G, 43A) and just 6 penalty minutes. Over his Walleye career, Berschbach has collected 132 points (42G, 92A) and a plus 27 with just 16 penalty minutes in 128 games.

Earlier this year he has been named ECHL Player of the month in January, plus twice landing ECHL Player of the Week honors. "It is a great honor for Shane to be recognized for an individual award after the type of season he has had," said Head Coach Derek Lalonde. "He is who we want him to be, a dynamic and honest player, a winner, who brings it every day." Berschbach spent the majority of last season in Toledo setting a new single season Walleye record with 48 assists. He also added 15 goals for a total of 63 points in 65 games during the 2014-15 season, which was second on the team in scoring.

In 21 playoff contests, Berschbach led the Walleye in scoring with 25 points (8G, 17A). He also appeared in five games with Grand Rapids in the AHL with no points. The 24-year-old spent four years at Western Michigan University prior to turning professional. As a Bronco, Berschbach posted 39 goals and 78 assists as was a plus 27 in 146 games.
