Mavericks Fall 4-2 to Steelheads
April 8, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
BOISE, IDAHO - The Missouri Mavericks were defeated 4-2 in their first-ever match-up against the Idaho Steelheads on Friday evening. Missouri will get their shot at redemption tomorrow night when they once again drop the puck in Boise, Idaho at 8:10p.m. (CDT) to close out their 2015-16 regular season schedule.
The Mavs own the top spot in the ECHL with 107 points, and have already earned home ice advantage throughout the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs by clinching the Brabham Cup as regular-season point champions. Missouri will play their first post-season games on Saturday, Apr. 16 (7:05p.m.) and Sunday, Apr. 17 (4:05p.m.) at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Tickets for Game 1 and Game 2 are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com and in-person at the arena box office.
All eight Western Conference post-season berths were locked up on Friday evening, with the Quad City Mallards solidifying themselves in the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs in their win over the Cincinnati Cyclones. The Missouri Mavericks first round opponent has not been determined, as seeding in the Western Conference is yet to be finalized.
Idaho scored the opening tally of the night when Kyle Jean bested Josh Robinson between the pipes just 2:23 into play. Missouri answered back to tie the game when defenseman Bryce Aneloski lit the lamp for the visiting Mavs at 7:55 with the help of Darren Nowick.
The Steelheads then stole back the lead late in the frame when Rob Linsmayer scored his twentieth goal of the season with the help of Kruise Reddick.
Linsmayer doubled his efforts on the score sheet in favor of the home team at 3:56 of the second period when he once again found his way past Robinson for a 3-1 Steelheads lead. Less than two minutes later, Idaho dealt another blow to the Mavericks when Andre Bouvet-Morrissette scored the fourth Steelheads goal of the contest.
Missouri was finally able to cut into the dominant Idaho lead when Rocco Carzo capitalized on a three-on-two situation in the Idaho zone while the Mavs were short-handed. Carzo scored at 15:37 of the second period with the help of Aneloski.
The Mavericks were held to just 17 shots on goal through the full 60-minutes of regulation, compared to the Steelheads 39 opportunities, and left the ice with their fourth straight loss - the first four-game skid of their season.
The Mavericks close out their regular season schedule this tomorrow evening with another game against the Idaho Steelheads at 8:10p.m. (CDT). Fans can catch all the action from one of the Mavericks official watch party locations: Rock & Brews (Overland Park, KS), The Blue Line (Kansas City, MO), or Drumm Farm Gold Club (Independence, MO).
