Gladiators Fall to Swamp Rabbits 3-2 in Final Road Game of Season
April 8, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Greenville would get on the scoreboard first just 2:08 into the opening period. Brian Hart notched his 10th goal of the season on a breakaway goal. Garrett Bembridge picked up his 23rd assist on the year with the primary helper and Greg Amlong registered his first pro point with the secondary assist.
The Swamp Rabbits extended their lead to two with the first tally of the second period. Charlie Dodero took a slap shot from the right point after a Greenville face-off win that found its way between the legs of the Atlanta goalie, Kent Patterson. Hart earned his second point of the night getting the lone assist after winning the draw back to Dodero.
Thomas Frazee cut the lead in half as he scored the first Gladiators goal 17:41 into the middle frame. After the British Columbia native's first shot was blocked, he sent a second strike on goal that beat Swamp Rabbit netminder, Alain Valiquette. Tyler Murovich and Jake Bolton received credit for the helpers on Frazee's 16th goal of the campaign.
The Gladiators tied the game with just over four minutes to go in the game. Justin Buzzeo sent a wrist shot over the shoulder of Valiquette for his 11th goal on the year. Max Everson registered the only helper on the play giving him 15 assists on the season.
Just over a minute later, Greenville re-took the lead when Michael St. Croix sprung in on a breakaway after splitting the Atlanta defense and beat Patterson for his 11th goal of the season. The Gladiators would come close to tying the game late but eventually fell to the Swamp Rabbits by the score of 3-2. In the loss, the Gladiators remain at 73 points on the season and Greenville improved to 68 points in the win.
