From the Notes

ABOUT YESTERDAY: Jerrick Suiter snuck a two-run double inside third base in the second and both Eric Wood and Kevin Kramer doubled during a two-run fourth inning as Indy sealed the series win with a 4-0 shutout yesterday over Syracuse. Kramer finished with his first three-hit game of the season to pace the offense, and Tyler Eppler matched Alex McRae's Monday night outing with six shutout frames of his own to improve to 2-1 in four starts this year. Eppler's career numbers at Victory Field in 16 games (13 starts) are quite impressive. The 25-year-old righty is now 8-1 with a 2.33 ERA (22 ER/85.0 IP) in Circle City appearances. Indy is now two games above .500 for the first time this season.

HIT OR MISS: The Tribe rotation has found their groove this homestand, going 2-1 with a 1.01 ERA (3 ER/26.2 IP). The only loss came on Sunday with Nick Kingham suffering a tough-luck defeat after yielding two runs (one earned) in 5.2 innings pitched. In the Tribe's nine wins this season, the rotation has a collective 5-0 record and 1.17 ERA (6 ER/46.1 IP). In their seven losses, the rotation is 0-6 with a 9.72 ERA (27 ER/25.0 IP).

BACK-TO-BACK SHUTOUTS: Indianapolis has posted shutouts in back-to-back games, winning the first two games of the series against the Chiefs, 2-0 and 4-0. Indy posted consecutive shutouts just once in 2017, doing so right out of the All-Star break. The Tribe blanked Louisville on July 13 and 14 at Victory Field, 10-0 and 6-0.

HOOSIER HOSPITALITY: Jerrick Suiter, a native of Valparaiso, Ind. and a Valparaiso High School graduate, has made a big impact in each of Indy's last two victories over Syracuse. On Monday night, he entered as part of a double-switch in the top of the eighth inning and quickly impacted the game in the home half, lacing a leadoff triple and scoring the game-winning run on a Kevin Newman RBI single. Then yesterday, Suiter got the nod at first base and hit a two-run double in the second inning to put Indy on top, 2-0. Suiter is batting .316 (6-for-19) with one triple, three doubles, five RBI and one stolen base.

SLUGGING PERCENTAGE: Indy leads the International League with 39 doubles and nine triples but sits dead last in all of professional baseball with just one home run. Despite the one dinger, the Tribe still rank fifth in the International League in slugging percentage (.382). Indy totaled five doubles in yesterday's game, marking the third time they've done that already this season.

GET SERIOUS VS. SYRACUSE: Since 2009, Indianapolis has protected Victory Field quite well when Syracuse comes to town, winning eight of the 10 head-to-head series over the Chiefs. Indy split a four-game set with Syracuse in 2010 and was swept 4-0 in 2013. Indy has won eight straight games over the Chiefs at The Vic, dating back to a 5-4 loss on June 10, 2016. The Tribe have won 14 of their last 16 games against Syracuse at The Vic and are 25-11 against Syracuse at home over the last 10 seasons.

KEEP 'EM OFF THE BOARD: Indy has blanked Syracuse three straight games at Victory Field, 2-0 and 4-0 in the current series and a 2-0 shutout on Aug. 13, 2017 -- a game that today's starting pitchers, Clay Holmes and Erick Fedde, both started. Holmes threw five no-hit innings with one walk and four strikeouts in that victory. The Indians have allowed a total of nine runs in their eight-game winning streak against Syracuse at The Vic, the streak beginning with a 2-1 win on June 11, 2016.

NO. 13 REACHES 13: Tribe 3B/OF Jose Osuna, who wears No. 13, is riding a 13-game hitting streak to start the season, batting .333 (15-for-45) with six doubles, one home run and eight RBI during the stretch. He has collected exactly one RBI in eight of his 13 games played. The 13-game streak is the sixth double-digit hitting streak of his career and first since his career-high-tying 14-gamer from July 16-30, 2016 with Indianapolis. His previous five streaks all occurred in the months of July and August.

JOHNNY BE GOOD: Indians reliever Johnny Hellweg has thrown two scoreless innings this homestand, keeping his ERA at a perfect 0.00 on the season. He has allowed just four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in eight innings pitched, good for a 0.88 WHIP and .148 (4-for-27) batting average against. His three saves are tied for the third most in the IL.
