Indianapolis IN - The Syracuse Chiefs ended their six-day road trip with a 4-2 win over the Indianapolis Indians in ten innings on Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field. This is the third time this season the Chiefs won in extras and the second time this road trip. Irving Falu drove in all four runs for the Chiefs en route to the victory.
Indianapolis (9-8) started the scoring in the bottom of the third. Jerrick Suiter doubled to center field off Syracuse starting pitcher Erick Fedde. Christopher Bostick then walked, and a sacrifice bunt by Clay Holmes pushed the runners to second and third. Kevin Newman followed with a groundout to short, enough to score Suiter and give the Tribe a 1-0 lead.
The Indians grabbed a second run in the sixth. Indianapolis loading the bases when Austin Meadows walked, Jordan Luplow doubled, and after Christopher Smith entered the game, Eric Wood walked. Jacob Stallings then worked a walk with the bases loaded to stretch the lead to two.
Syracuse (11-7) finally broke a streak of 25 and two-thirds innings without scoring a run in the top of the eighth inning against Indianapolis reliever Tyler Jones. Tuffy Gosewisch walked with one out, and Hunter Jones doubled to put runners on second and third. After a strikeout, Falu hit an infield single past first base, scoring both Gosewisch and Jones to square the game at two.
In the tenth, Gosewisch started on second base, and Hunter Jones led off with a bunt single to put runners on first and third. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Falu continued his big game with a two-run single to left field to give Syracuse a 4-2 lead.
Indianapolis had runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the tenth, but Syracuse reliever David Goforth struck out Meadows and got Luplow to ground out to short to end the game.
The Chiefs return to NBT Bank Stadium Friday at 6:35 p.m. against the Rochester Red Wings. RHP Edwin Jackson is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite RHP Aaron Slegers for the Red Wings.
