Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will have some visitors from the City of Brotherly Love for Autism Awareness Day this Sunday, April 29th, at Coca-Cola Park.
Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Fred Barnett will visit Coca-Cola Park along with Swoop, the Eagles' mascot, and members of the recently announced 2018 cheerleading squad. This visit, made possible by Jaindl Farms, will occur prior to the Pigs' 1:35 p.m. contest against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
Barnett is one of many Eagles alumni, players and staff who will be participating in the Eagles Autism Challenge on May 19. The goal of the challenge is to raise funds for innovative research and programs to help unlock the mystery of autism. More information on that event can be found at EaglesAutismChallenge.org.
"We are happy to be a part of this amazing cause and look forward to Sundays event and supporting the IronPigs and Eagles' efforts in raising awareness in the battle against autism," said Luke Jaindl, Manager at Jaindl Farms.
A 1990 third-round pick out of Arkansas State, Barnett played the first six seasons of his eight-year career in Philadelphia, catching 308 passes for 4,634 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Barnett will be available from noon to 1 p.m. to sign autographs for fans at Coca-Cola Park. Please note that only one autograph per fan will be permissible so as many individuals as possible have the opportunity to meet the former Eagle.
For Sunday's Autism Awareness game, the IronPigs will wear special Autism Awareness jerseys presented by Legend Senior Living. The white jerseys, which will be auctioned during the game, will feature puzzle pieces filling both the "IronPigs" logo on the front and player numbers on the back. The puzzle pieces are fashioned and colored like those in the official trademark of the Autism Society of America.
Proceeds from this jersey auction will benefit the Lehigh Valley Autism Society. Local organizations that assist children with autism -- including Mikayla's Voice, KidsPeace and Live Learn & Play -- will be on-site to offer information and educational materials.
Tickets for Autism Awareness Day at Coca-Cola Park, as well as all other home contests, are now available at IronPigsBaseball.com, at the Coca-Cola Park ticket windows, and by phone at (610) 841-PIGS (7447).
The 2018 IronPigs baseball season is presented by Capital BlueCross.
