Buffalo Bisons (4-6, T4(-2.5), North) vs. Durham Bulls (8-9, 2nd(-2.0), South)
Wednesday, April 25, 2018 (10:35 a.m.) - Durham Bulls Athletic Park
LHP Ryan Borucki (0-2, 6.23) vs. LHP Vidal Nuno (1-0, 3.45)
Radio: ESPN 1520 AM, Bisons Radio Network
Today's Game
This morning, the Bisons take on the Durham Bulls in the third game of a three-game set from Durham Bulls Athletic Park (10:35 a.m.). The Herd will look to avoid the three-game sweep as Durham has collected wins of 8-1 and 5-1 already this week. Buffalo is just 1-4 on their current roadtrip that also ends this afternoon.
Last Game: DUR 5 BUF 1
Durham RHP Jose Mujica retired the first nine batters he faced and struck out six to lead the Bulls to the 5-1 win over the Herd. INF Danny Espinosa had two hits in the loss for Buffalo while OF Darnell Sweeney drove in the Herd's lone run with an RBI-single in the ninth inning.
Today's Starter: LHP Ryan Borucki
LHP Ryan Borucki makes his third start of the season and fourth of his Triple-A career. The southpaw is still looking for his first Bisons win after taking the defeat in each of his first two starts of 2018. Last Friday in Norfolk, Borucki allowed four runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings of work in what was his first action in 10 days because of all of the games the Bisons lost because of weather.
Durham (0-2)
The Bisons are 0-2 against the Bulls this year and are now just 9-28 in their last 37 games at Durham Bulls Athletic Park since the 2009 season. That includes four series sweeps, the last of which was a three-game series in 2015. The Bulls don't travel to Coca-Cola Field for the Buffalo-portion of the season series until a four-game set, August 19-22.
Dalton Pompey
OF Dalton Pompey has collected at least one base hit in each of his four games since being optioned to the Herd on Friday. Along with a .353 average (6-17), the switch-hitter has added his first home run of the year and is a perfect 4-for-4 stealing bases. Injuries (concussion, leg) limited Pompey to just 13 games in all of 2017.
Tim Lopes
INF Tim Lopes continued his stellar debut at Triple-A by recording a hit in his eighth consecutive game last night. Overall, the infielder leads the International League with a .444 average and a .531 on-base pct. Lopes has reached base twice in six of his eight starts and has a 1.087 OPS so far this year.
Dwight Smith Jr.
OF Dwight Smith Jr. has reached base in eight straight games, and nine of the 10 games played this season. He has also drawn a walk in five straight contests and his 10 walks on the year are tied for 5th-most in the IL despite playing nearly half as many games as most.
Bisons Bits
The Bisons have 15 stolen bases on the year, tied for 4th most in the International League. As a team, they have only been caught stealing four times...RHP Sam Gaviglio is one of only two qualifying pitchers in the league to still have a 0.00 ERA (ROC D.J. Baxendale)...RHP Carlos Ramirez has allowed just one hit to the 21 batters he has faced this year, good for a .063 (1-16) average against.
Blue Jays Update
Toronto (14-8) closed to within three games of the 1st-place Red Sox thanks to a 4-3 walk-off win Tuesday night. OF Curtis Granderson hit the walk-off home run in the 10th inning for his third hit of the night. Former Bisons' LHP JA Happ struck out 10 over seven innings of work, but did not earn a decision as relief RHP Tyler Clippard improved to 3-0 on the year.
