January 21, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kingston Frontenacs News Release
The Kingston Frontenacs (17-9-3-0) are back at the Leon's Centre for a 7:00 pm faceoff against the East Division-leading Hamilton Bulldogs (18-9-2-2) in the first of three games in a three-day stretch. Kingston is tied for second in the Division with Oshawa, three points back of tonight's opponent.
Hamilton beat Kingston in the last matchup on January 16 by a heavy 8-1 score; however, the Fronts are 2-1-0-0 against Hamilton in the season series and have played two fewer games. Coach Luca Caputi's group needs to take advantage of their games in hand and keep pace with the East Division leader. Both teams have a 6-4-0-0 record in the last 10 games. However, the Bulldogs are coming in with consecutive wins over Niagara (6-2) and versus the Frontenacs (8-1). In contrast, the Fronts have struggled with four consecutive losses.
Kingston lost 4-2 To Oshawa last Tuesday. Caputi's group looks to get back to the solid team defensive play that served them well before the unfortunate break, with the team playing just four games entering tonight's action since December 12. It can be tough to get consistency in your game under those circumstances, but Kingston needs to find the consistent team game that saw them on an eight-game winning streak up to that December 12 date.
Bulldogs forward, Logan Morrison leads the team in points (12th in OHL) and enters on an eight-game point streak (9G, 7A), with goals in eight straight as well. Hamilton's first-rounder in 2018 had a goal and an assist in the 8-1 win over Kingston last week. Additionally, Shane Wright's World Junior teammate Mason McTavish had three points (2G,1A) matched by Avery Hayes.
It was a close affair in the first period as the Bulldogs left with a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes before the Dogs would score six straight to finish the game. Hamilton scored just 47 seconds into the game, setting up a chasing situation for Kingston.
Both teams average 11 minutes per game in penalties taken, so special teams' play will be a crucial battle to win or remain even. Kingston's number one power-play needs to take advantage of the 7th ranked penalty kill given opportunities. The Fronts went 0 for 5 in the last loss to Oshawa.
