First Period
The Blue and White flew on the ice early into the first frame, scoring at the 3:25 mark. Steelheads' Zakary Lavoie tipped the puck behind the back of Petes' netminder, Michael Simpson, giving the Trout a 1-0 lead. Aidan Prueter and Ethan Del Mastro were credited with the assists. With his assist, Prueter extended his point streak to five games.
Moments later, both the Steelheads and Petes received penalties giving way to four-on-four hockey. One minute later, Peterborough's Brian Zanetti poked the puck through the low glove side of Steelheads netminder Joe Ranger, evening the match 1-1. At the 8:38 mark, Petes' Ryan Gagner slipped one past Ranger putting Peterborough on top 2-1. Minutes following, the Petes' Jax Dubois snuck another goal by Ranger, gaining a 3-1 lead.
Mississauga turned the crease over to overage netminder Roman Basran with five minutes remaining in the first frame. The Blue and Whites' tempo began to increase as Steelheads' Ty Collins sunk his 8th goal of the season at the 17:53 mark, assisted by Chas Sharpe and Lavoie. After receiving a power play, the Petes answered back as J.R. Avon fired a shot past Basran, giving the Petes' a 4-2 lead. Yet, the Steelheads remained on top for shots on goal outshooting Peterborough exiting the first.
