Ottawa 67's News Release

Despite getting out to an early lead, the Ottawa 67's saw their three-game win streak come to an end in Peterborough, Thursday night.

Luca Pinelli scored twice in the first period, and Thomas Johnston added his eighth of the season, but a three-goal second period propelled the Petes to a 5-3 victory.

The Barber Poles took an early lead, on the powerplay just 3:44 in. Cam Tolnai cycled the puck to Jack Matier at the point, who gave it off to Pinelli at the faceoff dot to the left of the Peterborough net. The rookie walked in, and fired a laser of a shot top shelf to open the scoring.

Peterborough struck back less than three minutes later, with Tucker Robertson's first of two on the night, but Ottawa retook their lead soon after.

A hard forecheck by Cooper Foster down low knocked the puck loose, and Chris Barlas scooped it up, sending a quick pass to Johnston in the slot. He made no mistake on his one-timer chance, beating Simpson, and making it 2-1 in favour of the 67's.

At 15:51 of the first, Pinelli took advantage of a Petes turnover, and his quick slapshot from the point went in off the stick of a defender, sending the Barber Poles to the second period, up 3-1.

The second frame, however, was a reversal of fortunes.

Robertson's second of the night made it a one-goal game before five minutes had even elapsed, and it took nearly the entire rest of the frame, but Peterborough found a way to take over. J.R. Avon scored with less than three minutes to go, and on a late powerplay, Sam Alfano found the back of the net, making it 4-3 Petes with just 21 seconds left on the clock.

Emmett Sproule would tack on another in the third, and that would be all for the 67's, falling 5-3, this night.

Game Notes:

Luca Pinelli recorded his first career multi-goal game, and now has five points in his last two outings.

Chris Barlas is the 15th member of the 67's to notch his first OHL point, this season.

Cam Tolnai has six points in his last eight games.

Jack Matier has points in consecutive games.

Up Next: The 67's are back home, tomorrow night, hosting the Niagara IceDogs at 7:00pm ET.
