Owen Sound Attack News Release

After a rough weekend up in the SOO, the Owen Sound Attack had a strong bounce back performance Thursday night against the Barrie Colts, capturing a 3-2 win at Sadlon Arena.

The Attack had gotten outscored 11-3 during their two games against the Greyhounds over the weekend, and struggled early in each game. It was another sluggish start for the Bears Thursday night, as they found themselves hemmed in their zone for long stretches. Ultimately, the time in their own zone resulted in a tough bounce against, as the Colts jumped out to a lead, after a entering pass deflected off a skate and got behind Attack goalie Corbin Votary.

Unlike the weekend, Owen Sound did not shrink away from the game after falling behind, instead they began to push back late in the opening period. The Bears were able to carry their late first period momentum over into the second, as it took just under two minutes for Owen Sound to get on the board and even the game. It was after a strong forecheck from Stepan Machacek, when Ethan Burroughs would get his stick on a Cal Uens point shot, to elude the Colts netminder and tie the game.

The home Colts would regain their lead just over five minutes later, capitalizing on the power play and taking a 2-1 lead. The Attack again would fight back though, showing great determination to not let the game get away from them. Exactly five minutes after the Colts regained the lead, Owen Sound would even the score. Again it was some strong forechecking by the Attack, which lead to Cedrick Guindon finding space near the top of the left face-off circle. Guindon's wrist shot would squeak through Matteo Lalama, and trickle over the line for the rookie centre's 8th of the season, and even the score at 2-2.

Heading into the third period, neither team was interested in sitting back, as they would trade chances early, before the Colts would tilt the ice and pressure Votary in the Attack net. The rookie netminder stood tall, however, making some stellar saves and keeping the game tied. Owen Sound would then reward their young goalie, as it was their turn to capitalize on the power play.

After initially losing the face-off, the Attack were determined and would retrieve the puck before setting up. It was the former Colt Nick Porco making a gorgeous spinning, behind the back pass, cross crease to an open Deni Goure. The Bears leading scorer made no mistake and gave the visitors their first lead of the game, with just over six minutes left on the clock.

Owen Sound would again turn to Votary to help fend off a late Colts charge, as the home side pressed hard for the tying goal. Some strong team defence and more stellar saves by Votary, would help the Attack hold off the Colts and earn a hard fought 3-2 win.

Owen Sound will now travel south to conclude their five game road schedule, with a Friday night affair in Sarnia. Fans can catch the Attack take on the Sting on RogersTV, OHL Live or listen on 560 CFOS Bears Radio.
