NORTH BAY, Ont. - Brandon Coe scored two goals and added an assist to lead the North Bay Battalion to a 4-1 Ontario Hockey League victory Thursday night over the Sudbury Wolves.

Ty Nelson provided one goal and one assist and Alexander Lukin the other goal for North Bay, which got 20 saves from goaltender Dom DiVincentiis in a Memorial Gardens without spectators.

The Battalion improved its won-lost-extended record to 19-12-4 for 42 points, second in the Central Division. The Troops, 3-5-2 in their last 10 games, won for the third time in their last four.

Jacob Holmes scored for Sudbury, while goaltender Jonathan Lemaire faced 32 shots. The Wolves are 10-20-4 for 24 points, fourth in the division.

The Battalion, which dressed 11 forwards and seven defencemen, was without centres Liam Arnsby and Kyle Jackson and right winger Kyle McDonald.

"I thought we were kind of sound all the way through, and that's everybody across the board," said Battalion coach Ryan Oulahen, who separated customary linemates Coe and Matvey Petrov.

"I thought it gave us balance. I thought it gave us some different options that we could go through and just try to see some chemistry in different ways."

Owen Van Steensel skated with Mitchell Russell and Coe, while Petrov was deployed with Michael Podolioukh and Nikita Tarasevich.

Coe completed the scoring on the power play at 3:29 of the third period, taking a cross-ice pass from Russell, who had three assists, and firing the puck home from the top of the right-wing circle. Nelson also assisted on Coe's team-leading 24th goal of the season.

The Battalion, which led 2-1 after 20 minutes, scored the only second-period goal after Podolioukh emerged from the penalty box, took a pass from Russell and cleared the puck down the left boards for Coe at the blue line. He drove to the net to beat Lemaire at 17:28.

Defenceman Holmes opened the scoring at 5:51 of the first period on a slap shot from the left point. Kocha Delic and Payton Robinson received assists.

Lukin tied it 35 seconds later, driving deep to the left corner and banking the puck off Lemaire's back. The first OHL goal for the Russian rearguard was assisted by Tarasevich, who earned his first point in four games since a trade from the Sarnia Sting, and Petrov.

Nelson drilled the puck home from the right point at 19:39 off a left-wing faceoff. Coe and Russell had assists on defenceman Nelson's sixth goal, which proved to be the winner.

DiVincentiis produced a sterling glove save against Delic at 13:07 after he seized a turnover and darted into open ice in the slot.

The Battalion visits the Barrie Colts at 4 p.m. Saturday in a game rescheduled from last Saturday night.

BATTALION BULLETS: It was the teams' fifth of 12 games under the special schedule format this season, with the Battalion having a record of 3-1-1. They meet again Sunday at North Bay ... The Battalion went 1-for-4 on the power play. Sudbury was 0-for-3 ... In 222 games, Coe has 76 goals and 101 assists for 177 points, two more than Howie Martin and 12th in franchise history. Coe has seven-game goals and points streaks in which he has nine goals and three assists for 12 points ... Russell has an eight-game points streak in which he has six goals and 10 assists for 16 points ... Petrov has an eight-game points streak during which he has three goals and nine assists for 12 points ... Captain Arnsby has a lower-body injury, while Jackson is recovering from a knee ailment and has been placed in covid protocol ... McDonald started serving a four-game suspension issued after he was assessed a major and game misconduct for a check from behind against visiting Barrie last Sunday ... Christian Stevens, who played his seventh game of the season with the Battalion, was recalled from the junior A Haliburton County Huskies ... Delic has a seven-game points streak in which he has two goals and nine assists for 11 points ... Sudbury's David Goyette saw the end of a seven-game points streak in which he had eight goals and three assists for 11 points ... Ryan Harrison and Drew Jackson were the referees.
