Wichita is 0-3-0-0 vs. Missouri
HEAD-TO-HEAD - This is the fourth meeting of the season between the Thunder and the Mavericks. All-time, Wichita is 35-25-3 against Missouri and 20-12-2 at home.
TODAY - Wichita finishes its second three-in-three of the season this afternoon against the Missouri Mavericks. Last night, Missouri held on late for a 1-0 lead and improved to 3-0-0-0 in the Independence Cup Series. The Thunder are in the middle of a tough stretch, playing seven games in nine days. After today, Wichita will head to Allen on Tuesday followed by a home game on Wednesday night. Missouri will be off until next Friday when they travel back to the Air Capital.
INDEPENDENCE CUP - Wichita and Missouri will get a full helping of each other over the next two weeks. Starting tonight, the Thunder will see the Mavericks five of the next eight games. Once again, the teams are playing for the Independence Cup and currently, the Mavericks lead the season-series with back-to-back wins on October 23rd and 24th.
SUNDAY MATINEE - Today is one of just two meetings between Wichita and Missouri that will take place on a Sunday afternoon. Both of those meetings will be at INTRUST Bank Arena. Wichita lost its only Sunday game so far this season in Quad City on October 25th.
FINDING OFFENSE - Last night turned into a defensive dual betweeen the two teams. There were only a combined 10 shots in the first period before the game started to open up in the second. A total of 45 shots were fired on net with Matt Finn scoing the only goal. Wichita has scored just one goal in three meetings against Missouri this season.
MARTY - Brandon Martell recorded his third goal of the season that pulled the Thunder even on Friday night with the Mallards. He caught a beautiful feed across the crease and buried it past Brody Hoffman. Martell is tied for the team-lead with three goals and has scored in two of the last three games.
FIRST GOAL - Teams in the ECHL that have scored first have had the upper hand so far to this point in the season. Out of the 126 first goals scored so far, teams are 96-22-7-1 and good for a clip of .795 winning percentage. The Thunder have scored four first goals so far this season.
