Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Reading, PA - Former Greenville goaltender Connor Knapp stopped all 30 shots he faced on Sunday as the Reading Royals (5-3-0) defeated the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (3-7-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, 5-0, at Santander Arena.

The setback was Greenville's sixth in a row.

Reading jumped on the board in the opening six minutes when Justin Crandall capitalized on the Royals' first power-play chance. With Scott Fleming in the box for tripping, Yannick Tifu hustled to the bottom of the right circle and centered a pass to Crandall at the low slot for a one-timer. Crandall's shot glanced off the post and beat goaltender Mackenzie Skapski at the 5:24 mark. It was Crandall's third goal of the season.

Tifu extended the Royals' lead late in the opening frame during another power play opportunity. With Justin DaSilva in the box for slashing, Cam Reid ripped a shot on target that Skapski deflected into the air, but Tifu punched it home from the blue paint for his second goal of the season at 15:38.

Following a scoreless middle frame, the Royals tacked on a trio of goals of even-strength goals in the third period for the 5-0 final. At the 5:27 mark, Joe Rehkamp collected the puck in the right corner and slipped a centering feed to Matt Hatch at the doorstep, where the forward sent a one-timer past Skapski for his second goal of the season.

Less than three minutes later, Rehkamp added another point, this time a goal, when he netted his second goal of the season at the 8:16 mark. From the left side, Rehkamp entered the zone on a 2-on-2 rush, slowed at the left hash marks and ripped an elevated shot over Skapski's glove to make it 4-0.

The Royals entered Sunday's contest ranked second in the league in goals-per-game (4.14), and improved that average at 10:48 of the third period when captain Maxim Lamarche capped the scoring with his third goal of the season. From the top of the right circle, Lamarche wound up and drove a low shot past Skapski's blocker with a crowd in front.

The Swamp Rabbits finished the game 0-for-6 on the power play, despite having two 5-on-3 opportunities that combined for more than two minutes. The Royals went 2-for-4 on the power play.

Skapski (0-2-0) made 23 saves in the loss. Greenville outshot Reading for the second straight day, 30-28.

Tifu (1g, 2a), Crandall (1g, 2a) Watters (2a) and Rehkamp (1g, 1a) each collected multiple points for Reading.
