South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC-For the second straight day, the South Carolina Stingrays offense led the way and pushed the club to its fourth win in its last five games. The Stingrays defeated the Norfolk Admirals 3-1 on Sunday at the North Charleston Coliseum. Andrew Rowe scored the game-winning goal while David Pacan and Joe Devin had two assists.
The Stingrays fired 17 shots on goal in the opening period, but it took until the 18:48 mark to score. Bobby Shea struck for his second goal of the season, tucking a backhand shot past Norfolk goaltender Nic Riopel. Devin and Pacan assisted on the goal that gave the Stingrays a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, Rowe scored his second goal in as many nights courtesy of a beautiful feed from Colin Mulvey. South Carolina brought the puck into the offensive zone. Mulvey wrapped the puck around the goal. He fed Rowe on the far-side of the crease, and the Stingrays captain made no mistake at 11:26. Nick D'Agostino also picked up an assist on the goal that made it 2-0.
Before the period ended, the Stingrays added another goal on a great passing play. Pacan collected the puck on the near-side boards and fed it to a streaking Vigier in the slot. The forward beat a Norfolk defender to the puck and slipped a backhand shot through Riopel's five-hole at 15:55.
The Admirals would score the lone goal of the third period on a tally by Marco Roy on the power play at 6:43, but the Stingrays would hold off the late surge to earn the victory.
South Carolina outshot Norfolk 34-18 on the afternoon. Vitek Vanecek earned the win in goal, stopping 17 Norfolk shots.
The Stingrays are back in action next Friday and Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum against Orlando. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. both nights.
