Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL have announced that defenseman Kirk Furey has been loaned to Philadelphia of the American Hockey League. He is the first Bully to receive an AHL call-up this season. Furey is expected to suit up for the Phantoms when they host the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks on Wednesday and play through the weekend.

The 26-year old native of Glace Bay, NS begins his second stint with the Phantoms after posting 10 assists in his first 11 games this season. Furey tallied 7 assists in 31 games with Philadelphia in 2002-03. Prior to coming to Atlantic City this year, he participated in Phantoms training camp. Furey currently is tied for 4th among ECHL defensemen in scoring and ranks 2nd in assists.

Bullies Head Coach Mike Haviland expects Furey to return to the line-up perhaps as early as next Tuesday when the Bullies host the Las Vegas Wranglers. For now, the Bullies will go with five defensemen pending the return of Ian Walterson from the 7-day injured reserve.

The Bullies had 12 players recalled or loaned to AHL teams last season.

The defending Kelly Cup Champion Bullies host the Johnstown Chiefs at 7:05PM Wednesday at Boardwalk Hall. It's the second "Wild Wednesday" of the season sponsored by Molson Canadian and Coors light, featuring $6 dollar tickets for college students, military personnel, casino, and service industry workers with a valid ID.
