Frontenacs See Greyhounds Leave Kingston with Two Points

January 31, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kingston Frontenacs News Release

Before the Frontenacs and Greyhounds took the ice, it looked like two players would get their first shot at their former teams, but it wasn't meant to be. Billy Constantinou was a scratch for the Greyhounds and Christian Propp was a back-up to Ryan Dugas. Dugas was coming off a shutout against the Niagara IceDogs and had earned a second consecutive start.

The two teams played a cautious opening period. With neither team being familiar with the other, it appeared they wanted to get a feel for the game before taking too many chances. By the end of the period the shots on goal were 7-6 in favour of the visitors and the score remained 0-0.

Kingston opened the scoring midway through the second period, and it was a goal that will always be remembered. Zayde Wisdom dropped the puck to Ethan Ritchie who had joined the rush. Ritchie made a perfect shot to beat Bailey Brkin for his first career OHL goal.

The Greyhounds responded by the end of the period. Jacob LeGuerrier took a point shot that found its way through the crowd and tied the game.

Just over a minute later, Zack Trott was sent in on a breakaway by Kingston native Tye Kartye. Trott beat Ryan Dugas between the legs to put the Soo ahead 2-1 after two periods.

The Greyhounds picked up right where they left off in the third period. Cole MacKay tipped a point shot taken by LeGuerrier. It was a perfect tip that got by Dugas for a 3-1 lead.

The dagger came at 5:01 of the third. Nick King attempted a zone clearing pass that hit the skate of MacKay. The deflected puck landed on the stick of Rory Kerins who went top shelf. The goal made it 4-1.

The Greyhounds added another goal when Joe Carroll knocked the puck out of the air after a Dugas save. After reviewing the play, it was determined that the play was not high sticking and the goal counted making it 5-1.

Nick Wong scored a late goal to bring the Frontenacs back within three goals, but it was too little, too late. The Greyhounds would go on to win 5-2.

Kingston now has two road games this weekend in Barrie on Saturday and North Bay on Sunday. They return home for a Wednesday night game against the Peterborough Petes at 7 PM. Tickets are available at the Leon's Centre box office or at ticketmaster.ca.
