67's Collect Eighth Consecutive Win in Hamilton

January 31, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release

HAMILTON - The Ottawa 67's made it eight wins in a row on Friday night when they visited the Hamilton Bulldogs, defeating them by a score of 5-2. Austen Keating, Daylon Groulx, Marco Rossi, Nikita Okhotyuk and Jack Quinn got on the board for Ottawa, while Cedrick Andree got his 26th win of the current campaign.

Austen Keating was the first player to score a goal in this one, finishing off a sequence that was set up by Joseph Garreffa and Kevin Bahl just about five minutes into the game. It would take under three minutes for the Bulldogs to answer, when Liam Van Loon made it 1-1 just before Logan Morrison gave the hosts the lead at the twelve minute mark of the opening period, giving his team a 2-1 that would last until the intermission.

67's trade deadline acquisition Daylon Groulx scored the second period's only goal, as he walked in and beat Marco Costantini with a precise shot to tie things up at two at 7:20 in the period, setting up a promising third period as both teams headed to the locker rooms with a tied score of 2-2 after forty.

Known for their strong third periods, Ottawa stayed true to their identity in this one. The Barber Poles were given a five minute power play at the midway point of this one when Liam Van Loon hit Daylon Groulx from behind, but solid penalty killing from the Dogs kept them in it, until the OHL's league leader in points, Marco Rossi, tipped in a Noel Hoefenmayer shot from the point to give the 67's the lead with just under six minutes to go. Rossi would go on to set up Nikita Okhotyuk, who made it 4-2 with a solid one timer from the top of the circles. The league leader in goals, Jack Quinn, went on to register his 39th goal of the season in an empty net for a final of 5-2.

Now headed back to Ottawa, the Barber Poles clinched a perfect back to back with a win on Friday night, after they had just defeated the Niagara IceDogs on the road the night prior, now making it a total of eight wins in a row for the 67's. Ottawa will look to make it nine in a row, on top of rounding out a perfect week with a win on Sunday afternoon at home, when they host the Soo Greyhounds inside The Arena at TD Place.

GAME NOTES

Another solid night for Marco Rossi, who ended the game with a goal, two assists and a +4 on the night.
