January 31, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack headed to Kitchener on Friday night to take on the hottest team in the OHL. The Rangers came into the evening having earned a point in their last 14 games, putting up a 11-0-3 record over that span. The hot streak put them in first place in the ever tightening Western Conference with 63 points in 46 games this season. The Attack entered the night in 7th place in the competitive bottom half of the standings, one point behind sixth placed Guelph. Igor Chibrikov would miss the game with the flu, while Stepan Machacek served the first game of his four-game suspension and Griffin Wilson continued to sit with an orbital bone injury. Mack Guzda would start for the visitors and Jacob Ingham got the nod for the Rangers.

The first ten minutes started out slowly at the Aud, with the Attack gaining an early edge in shots on goal heading into the TV timeout. But coming out of the break, Mike Petizian went to work. Petizian scored his 15th and 16th of the season in a 16 second span to put the Rangers out to a sudden 2-0 advantage. Owen Sound wouldn't be discouraged, and Alan Letang's team got right back to work. The Attack earned the next few shots on Jacob Ingham and with four minutes remaining in the frame Matt Philip wired a shot past the Kitchener netminder for his 19th of the year to cut the deficit in half. The Attack would go to the intermission down 2-1 but ahead on the shot clock 13-8.

Neither team was able to score in the second period, but there was plenty of feisty play by both sides as the Attack looked to claw their way back into the game. Each team had three power play opportunities in the middle stanza, but the penalty kill for both sides was solid. Owen Sound earned a 5 on 3 chance late in the frame, but Jacob Ingham continued to stand tall in the Kitchener net, turning away all 11 Attack attempts. Guzda was just as good in the period, turning away 11 Rangers shots as the Attack headed to the 3rd looking to dig out of the 2-1 hole.

The Attack were desperate in the third period to find the tying goal and get another one past Ingham. Owen Sound had the possession advantage all period long, but the Rangers netminder continued his strong play turning away the Attack shots. Brady Lyle hit a post early in the frame, and Matthew Struthers rocketed one off the crossbar later in the game. But 38 saves later, Ingham and Petizian defeated Owen Sound 2-1 despite the Attack outshooting Kitchener 39-29.

The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was Aidan Dudas. The Owen Sound Bug Juice North Stars Three Stars were Brady Lyle, Mike Petizian and Jacob Ingham.

The Attack are back at the Bayshore tomorrow night to meet the Windsor Spitfires at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are limited and are available at the MacVicar & McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office.
