Generals Start off Home-And-Home against Petes Tonight at 7:05pm

January 31, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa is looking to set the tone tonight against the Petes as they prepare to play them twice in as many days.

Season Record (Last 10 games): Oshawa Generals: 22-16-3-2 (5-4-1-0) - 3rd in East Division

Peterborough Petes: 28-16-2-1 (3-7-0-0) - 2nd in East Division

Season Series: This is the fifth of eight times these teams will meet this season. Peterborough holds a 3-1 season series lead over your Generals.

Game 1 at Oshawa; October 20th, 2019: 2-1 Peterborough win

Game 2 at Oshawa; December 13th, 2019: 3-2 Peterborough win

Game 3 at Peterborough; December 19th, 2019: 4-1 Peterborough win

Game 4 at Oshawa; January 12th, 2020: 6-4 Oshawa win

Last Meeting: The last time these teams met was the weekend of the debut of each team's trade deadline acquisitions. Phil Tomasino finished off his ten point weekend with two goals and an assist. The Petes big deadline acquisition, Akil Thomas, recorded his first goal with the Petes, which is still his only goal with Peterborough (although he has 15 assists). The game ended 6-4 for your Generals and was the first time they beat the Petes this season - after dominating against them last season.

Players to Watch; Oshawa Generals Oliver Suni, RW - Suni has been a dynamic addition to the forward corps this season. The Finn took over the Gens' second import slot from Swiss Nando Eggenberger and has posted similar production. Returning from an injury he has gotten back into the game quickly posing a goal in his first game back. Suni is second among rookies in points-per-game with at least 20 games played - directly behind Frontenacs phenom, Shane Wright. Suni can set up a play or he can score a goal - he's strong on his feet and will find his NHL home this summer at the draft. He was ranked 45th in North American skaters in the NHL Central Scouting's mid-term rankings.

Mitchell Brewer, D - Brewer has been a key cog in the Gens' defensive corps since he was picked in the first round of the 2017 OHL draft. Brewer is reliable patrolling the blueline and is able to put up the occasional point on the board. Brewer has a heavy physical aspect to his game and loves to throw hip checks on opposing attackers. Brewer was voted the 'best shot blocker' in the OHL coaches' poll last season, and has continued to sacrifice his body to keep pucks out.

Player to Watch; Peterborough Petes

Nick Robertson, LW - Robertson has been on fire since this season. The Leafs' second-rounder this past summer has been scoring at over a goal-per-game pace, potting 35 in his first 32 of the season. Although he missed 16 games with an injury, and then an appearance at the World Juniors for Team USA, Robertson still sits at second on the goals list. He is only three goals behind leading goal-scorer Jack Quinn who has three more goals in 12 more games played. Consistency hasn't been an issue for this winger, he's only not recorded a point in three games through the end of January, and is riding a ten game point streak. Robertson is a shooter, throwing at least six shots on goal 17 times, and broke ten shots on goal five times. He'll keep the Gens' starter tonight.
