Fresno Grizzlies To Host Glove Drive Benefiting Junior Giants Program

Fresno, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies will host a glove drive on June 2nd to benefit Junior Giants youth baseball programs in the Central Valley. Fans that donate a new or used glove will receive a commemorative Willie Mays lapel pin and a ticket voucher good for that evening's game or any future 2005 regular season home game. Junior Giants, the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, is a non-competitive recreational program for youth 5-18 years old. Junior Giants emphasizes the positive characteristics of self-esteem, education, teamwork and leadership. There is no fee to be part of the baseball program, which targets at-risk youth, and has grown to 56 leagues throughout Northern and Central California. Each Junior Giants team is provided with pitching machines, gloves, bats and balls.

The 2005 Junior Giants Glove Drive will benefit leagues within the Central Valley. Fans may donate gloves at all Grizzlies Stadium gates to receive their commemorative Willie Mays lapel pin and game ticket voucher. The Fresno Grizzlies Community Fund began a partnership with the Junior Giants program in 2004 with a glove drive and baseball clinic, all benefiting the Junior Giants teams of the Central Valley. Nearly 150 Junior Giants participated in the clinic, which was instructed by seven of the Grizzlies players from the 2004 roster. The Grizzlies will host the annual Junior Giants clinic at a local city park in Sanger during the 2005 season.
