Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, Calif. - A pair of Oklahoma City RedHawks home runs in the fifth inning provided the difference in the Fresno Grizzlies' 7-3 loss on Wednesday at Chukchansi Park.
Fresno starting pitcher Shane Loux got the first two batters he faced in the fifth out with groundouts, but Jake Elmore sent a solo home run to the left field bleachers to make it 4-3 Oklahoma City. Three batters later, Fernando Martinez capped the game's scoring with a three-run blast to right field. It was Martinez's second home run of the series.
Loux allowed all seven Oklahoma City runs over his five innings pitched. The loss was Loux's first defeat in his last five starts.
The Grizzlies were the ones who established an early lead through the first two innings. Roger Kieschnick plated a run with an RBI groundout in the first, and Carter Jurica hit a two-out double to score Chris Dominguez in the second that made it 2-0. Dominguez drew a two-out walk in the second to keep the inning alive.
Jurica, who went 3-for-4 in the game, had another two-out RBI base knock in the fourth that scored Juan Perez and tied the game at 3-3. Jurica was the only Grizzlies hitter with more than one hit.
Oklahoma City scored three runs in the third inning to grab a 3-2 lead. After Jonathan Villar registered an RBI by beating out a double play to score the first run, Jake Elmore and Brett Wallace hit back-to-back RBI singles.
Ross Seaton earned the win for Oklahoma City after holding the Grizzlies to three runs (two earned) over six innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked three.
Wednesday's loss gives the Grizzlies their first back-to-back defeats since May 8 and 9.
Brett Bochy threw a scoreless sixth and seventh inning for Fresno, striking out two. The right-hander walked the first two batters he faced in the sixth, but he stranded the runners at second and third unscathed.
Mason Tobin and Dan Runzler also each tossed a shutout inning out of the Grizzlies bullpen.
The two teams will meet for the final game of the series on Thursday at 7:05 pm. Left-hander Mike Kickham will face right-hander Jarred Cosart.
