Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox are proud to announce that Security Service Field will host the 52nd Annual Southern Colorado High School All-Star Games, the longest running High School All-Star event in Colorado. This year's classic will be the second consecutive year the event has been held at Security Service Field. The games will be held on Memorial Day, Monday May 27, starting at 5 p.m.
The Southern Colorado High School All-Star Games have been featuring the top players in the Junior and Senior class from the Colorado Springs region in a two-game event since 1962. The Junior All-Star Game includes the top Juniors from around Southern Colorado with teams consisting of a mixture of 5A, 4A and 3A All-Stars. The Senior All-Star Game showcases the top senior standout players from the Colorado Springs area, with the best 5A, 4A, and 3A players facing off against each other in this Summer Classic.
"As the home of professional baseball here in Colorado Springs, we are very excited and proud to partner with our local high schools to bring this event back to Security Service Field to showcase and raise the awareness of the tremendous baseball talent we have here in Southern Colorado," Sky Sox President and General Manager Tony Ensor said. "Our goal is to make this annual event a crowning moment for all the players involved, recognizing all their achievements in High School and rewarding them for the many years of sacrifice and hard work it has taken them to get to this point in their baseball life. We hope this will be a great event for the community to come out and show their support for these young men."
Famous Southern Colorado All-Star Game participants from the 51-year history of the game include Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Goose Gossage from Wasson High School, the number one overall draft pick in the 1986 Draft Jeff King from Rampart High School, as well as current major leaguers Brandon McCarthy from Cheyenne Mountain High School and Chase Headley from Fountain-Fort Carson High School.
"This game has been played for 52 years and moving the game to Security Service Field has taken the event to the next level," said Bernie Mancallo, Head Coach at Air Academy High School. "It is also a great opportunity for the kids to be recognized as some of the better players in the region while playing at a top-notch professional ball park."
The Colorado Springs Sky Sox will start the day off with a game of their own against the Fresno Grizzlies beginning at 12:35 p.m. The seven-inning Junior All-Star Game will begin at 5:00 p.m. with the seven-inning Senior All-Star Game scheduled to commence at approximately 8:00 p.m.
