Salt Lake Bees News Release

In a game that featured seven home runs, the Memphis Redbirds outlasted the Salt Lake Bees 9-7 on Thursday night. Memphis jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Bees rallied with three in the third and then tied it in the fourth on a solo home run to center field by Trent Oeltjen. The Redbirds regained the lead on a two-run homer in the fifth by Adron Chambers and extended it to 7-4 on a leadoff homer in the sixth by Rob Johnson. The Bees pulled to within one on bases empty home runs by Oeltjen in the sixth and Andrew Romine in the seventh, but Memphis picked up two insurance runs in the ninth on a two-run triple by Justin Christian. After two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Salt Lake strung together three consecutive singles by Efren Navarro, Romine and Kole Calhoun to make it 9-7, but Luis Jimenez lined out to center to end the game.

Matt Shoemaker (3-7) took the loss, as he went five and one-third innings and allowed seven runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Oeltjen led the Bees with three hits, including two home runs, and two runs batted in. Romine and Calhoun each added three hits and one RBI. Hawpe's home run extended his hitting streak to 10 games and his on-base streak to 21 straight games.

"If we keep that record right around .500, once we get healthy, I have no doubts that we are going to go on a run," said Bees manager Keith Johnson. "The guys are starting to get healthy now and starting to get back into the groove of things. We've just got to keep grinding it out right now. Our starters have been doing a great job for us, and they are right now, they are just having a little hiccup. We just have to keep going."
