
Four Travs Named Mid-Season All-Stars

Little Rock, AR - The Texas League announced the 2016 All-Star rosters on Tuesday with four Arkansas Travelers featured on the North squad. Pitchers Tyler DeLoach and Jordan Kipper, first baseman Eric Aguilera, and outfielder Cal Towey were elected to represent the Travelers at Hammons Field in Springfield, MO on June 28. DeLoach and Towey have both been promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake and will not participate.
Aguilera, 25, is hitting .275 and leads the Travelers with eight home runs and 37 RBIs. The Carey, IL native has played in 62 of the 63 Arkansas games this season, and has also belted 12 doubles, two triples and has scored 21 runs. Aguilera is batting .307 at Dickey-Stephens Park and .396 (21-for-53) leading off innings. In 2015, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Aguilera led all Angels minor leaguers in home runs (17), RBIs (94) and was second in batting average (.313). Aguilera was also named a 2015 California League Post-Season All-Star. Aguilera was selected by the Angels in the 34th round of the 2013 draft out of Illinois State.
DeLoach, 25, was 2-1 with a 1.72 ERA in 22 relief appearances for the Travs at the time of his promotion on June 13. The 6-foot-6, 240-pound DeLoach worked 31.1 innings and allowed six runs on 23 hits with six walks and 36 strikeouts. Since April 15 (19 games), the lefty appeared in 19 games and worked 23.2 innings while allowing two runs (0.76 ERA) on 14 hits with four walks and 26 strikeouts. 2016 marks the first season the Angels have used DeLoach out of the bullpen. The Roanoke Rapids, NC native earned his first professional save on May 22 vs. Springfield and is tied for the Texas League lead with five holds. DeLoach was selected by the Angels in the 26th round of the 2012 draft out of UNC Wilmington.
Kipper, 23, threw a complete game, nine-inning no-hitter for the Travs on May 17 at Northwest Arkansas, the first one for Arkansas since 2010. In the feat, Kipper faced the minimum and retired 27 in a row (including a double play) after issuing a leadoff walk to start the game. The Phoenix, AZ native is 6-3 with a 3.29 ERA in 13 starts this season and leads the Texas League with 79.1 innings pitched. Since the no-hitter, the 6-foot-4, 185-pounder is 4-1 with a 1.88 ERA in six starts. Kipper has induced 13 ground ball doubles plays over his 13 starts and has a 2.02 GO/AO mark. Kipper was selected in the ninth round of the 2014 draft by the Angels out of TCU.
Towey, 26, was hitting .292 with four home runs and 17 RBIs at the time of his promotion on June 11. The Kirkland, WA native was fourth in the Texas league in batting, second in on-base percentage (.402), first in triples (5) and second in walks (34). Towey caught fire in mid May and batted .419 (31-for-74) with a .506 on-base percentage over 21 games from May 13 - June 5. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Towey was also tied for the Texas League lead with seven outfield assists when he was called up to Triple-A Salt Lake. The Angels selected Towey in the 17th round of the 2013 draft out of Baylor University.
The 80th Texas League All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday, June 28 at Hammons Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. with a pre-game home run derby and post-game fireworks.
