RockHounds Score Eight Late Runs to Take Game Two
June 14, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, gave up eight late runs, all against relief pitching, in an 8-2 loss to the Midland RockHounds in the second game of Monday night's doubleheader at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Still scoreless entering the sixth inning, Tyler Marincov broke the stalemate with a three-run homer off Juan Grullon (2-1). Grullon struggled in his only inning of work, taking the loss after allowing six of the eight batters he faced to reach base on four hits and two walks.
The RockHounds (30-32) put the game out of reach with five unearned runs in the seventh inning. After a RBI double and single made it 5-0, Josh Rodriguez launched a three-run home run off Riders lefty Ryne Slack to cap the scoring.
Midland's late scoring outburst nullified great outings by both starting pitchers. Riders left-hander Victor Payano threw five innings of three-hit ball for the Riders, walking only one batter and striking out six. Meanwhile, Midland righty Daniel Gossett tossed four shutout innings and gave up just one hit and one walk. Ben Bracewell (3-1) worked the final three innings to earn the victory.
Frisco (35-26) only managed four hits against the tandem of Gossett and Bracewell, with two coming in the bottom of the seventh. That included a two-run home run by Andy Ibanez, his first with the Riders since joining the squad Tuesday from Class-A Hickory.
The RoughRiders will look to split the four-game series in the finale on Tuesday. Right-hander A.J. Griffin (0-1, 3.86 ERA) is set to make the second start of his Major League rehab assignment opposite Midland right-hander Joel Seddon (1-6, 7.98 ERA). The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Southwest and can also be seen on MiLB.tv. Fans can also listen to the action on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App.
Tuesday's series finale will feature multiple promotions, including Super Splash Day and Taco Tuesday. Splash stations will be located throughout the ballpark for kids, and tacos will be sold for $2 all game long as part of Taco Tuesday. Tickets are available online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
