Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (29-34) scored four runs in the third inning to beat the Omaha Storm Chasers (30-32) to take a 3-1 series lead, Friday at Principal Park.
Matt Dermody gave Iowa four scoreless frames, allowing just one hit and three walks while striking out six. The I-Cubs' offense gave him four runs of support in the third, highlighted by a two-run double from David Bote.
The game stayed at 4-0 until the sixth, when Vinnie Pasquantino hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Omaha's first run of the game. They scored a second run the following inning on a bases loaded walk, cutting Iowa's lead to 4-2.
Nelson Maldonado brought the lead back to three with a solo shot in the home half of the inning, but the Storm Chasers answered right back on an RBI single by Jose Briceno.
Up 5-3 in the ninth, Erich Uelmen entered the game and despite allowing a leadoff single, struck out the final three batters to earn Iowa their third win of the series.
