
Town Takeovers: Spencer Spends Night at Polar Park

Several hundred Spencer residents attended the Worcester Red Sox game on Thursday, June 16, as one of 18 town takeovers scheduled this season. Spencer residents also received recognition during pre-game celebrations.
Honored as "The Heart of Worcester," the Spencer Exchange Club was represented by volunteer Cathy Knowles who threw a Ceremonial First Pitch. Additionally, the club's second annual class of "18 Under 18" honorees were recognized on the field.
The awardees were chosen for their leadership within their schools and larger communities, involvement in extracurricular activities, and enthusiasm to volunteer.

The WooSox also recognized members of the Spencer-East Brookfield Little League Championship team: Cam Barry, Austin Brodeur, Griffin Chase, Colin Burtt, Tommy Shivick, and Levi Verderber. These six started the game by saying everyone's favorite words, "Play Ball."
Lastly, four Spencer veterans were honored during "In Debt to a Vet" during the end of the fourth inning. The four that were thanked by the crowd were Petty Officer 3rd Class Bob Richmond, who served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1968; Petty Officer 2nd Class Paul Perron, who served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1963; Chief Petty Officer Gerald Perron, who served in the United States Seabee from 1993 to 2013; and Petty 1st Officer Carol Perron, who served in the United States Navy from 1986 to 2000.
The remaining town takeovers are Oxford (6/18), East Brookfield (6/24), Grafton (6/25), Leicester (7/8), Leominster (7/24), Southbridge (8/5), Springfield (8/19), and Paxton (9/3).
