Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, PA -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders were defeated by the Rochester Red Wings 7-6 on Friday evening. Estevan Florial went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and extended his team-high hitting streak to 10 games.
The Red Wings opened the scoring in the game's first frame on an RBI double from Adrian Sanchez against RailRiders' starter Ken Waldichuk. The 24-year-old lefty Waldichuk gave up five runs (four earned) over 3.2 frames.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre answered quickly versus Red Wings' starter Jefry Rodriguez via Greg Bird's game-tying single in the first. Bird went 2-for-4 with that RBI. The RailRiders then took the lead in the third with a run-scoring hit from Miguel Andújar to make it 2-1. Rodriguez allowed two runs in 2.2 innings.
Rochester jumped in front with a four-run fourth. Andrew Stevenson doubled home one and Sanchez drove in his second run of the night. The Red Wings added to their advantage two innings later after another RBI single from Sanchez made it 6-2.
SWB cut the lead in half with two tallies in the seventh. Phillip Evans brought Florial in on a ground out and Derek Dietrich delivered a two-out, RBI single to bring the RailRiders within 6-4. Rochester added an insurance run in the ninth on Stevenson's fifth home run of the season.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre then put together a rally in the ninth. Derek Dietrich and Max McDowell each brought runners home with two outs to bring the RailRiders within one, but they couldn't score the tying run in the 7-6 final.
Jace Fry (3-0) earned his third win out of the Red Wings' bullpen. Jordan Weems (8) logged his eighth save. Waldichuk (1-2) suffered the loss for SWB.
The two teams continue their six-game series on Saturday evening with first pitch at 6:05 PM. The first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive an Aaron Judge Emojihead, presented by Geisinger. It's also Youth Baseball and Softball night. Tickets are available at swbrailriders.com.
