Redbirds Hang on to Take Game Three from Sounds

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds salvaged game three of a six-game series against the Nashville Sounds on Thursday night at AutoZone Park by a final score of 7-6.

Major League rehabber and designated hitter Corey Dickerson got the scoring started with a titanic two-run home run that bounced once off the right-field concourse and left AutoZone Park. Memphis would score the first seven runs of the game through the fourth inning.

On the night, left fielder Alec Burleson, third baseman Cory Spangenberg and second baseman Evan Mendoza all registered two hits in the win. Mendoza tallied two RBIs.

Angel Rondon was very solid in his fifth start of the season. The right-handed pitcher faced just one batter above the minimum through four innings. Overall, Rondon pitched 5.0+ innings, allowed five runs on five hits and struck out five Sounds batters.

With the Redbirds up one in the ninth, no outs and runners at the corners, Kodi Whitley retired the next three batters to slam the door and earn his second save of the season. With the win, Memphis moved to one half game back of Nashville in the International League West Division standings.

The Memphis Redbirds (37-26) will return home to AutoZone Park to continue a six-game series and the 12-game homestand against the International League West leading Nashville Sounds on Friday, June 17 for a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch.
