Four-Run Fourth Lifts Hoppers to Fourth Straight
June 5, 2008 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release
Lexington, Ky. - Four runs in the fourth inning erased a three-run Greensboro deficit and provided the Hoppers with their fourth consecutive victory, 5-4.
Greensboro took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Matt Dominguez, but lost the lead in the bottom of the second as the Lexington Legends plated four runs on four hits and a Grasshoppers error.
The Hoppers responded in the fourth inning with four of their own runs to regain their one-run lead. Both teams combined for just four hits, two each, through the final five frames.
Ryan Curry provided the game-winning run for Greensboro in the fourth inning with his two-run home run to extend the Hoppers' current home run streak to 11 games; it was his second blast in as many nights.
Since the home run streak started on May 25, the Hoppers have hit 17 of their league-leading 59 home runs.
Kyle Kaminska earned his third win in his last four starts for Greensboro after five innings of work. He gave up all four Lexington runs, but struck out a career-high, six batters. He also fanned six in his last outing on May 31 against West Virgina.
Greensboro's bullpen shut out the Legends through the final four innings and allowed just two hits. Matt Mallory and A.J. Battisto combined for 2 2/3 innings on the mound and were each credited with holds; Garrett Parcell earned his 15th save after tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
The Hoppers will try to keep their perfect road trip record alive Saturday with the 7:00 p.m. series finale against Lexington from Applebee's Park.
Postgame Quick Stats Win - Kyle Kaminska (3-2); Loss - Tommy Vassella (1-1); Save - Garrett Parcell (15) Time - 3:00; Attendance - 6,385
