Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Lake County Captains (35-24) took advantage of five Hagerstown Suns (28-30) errors en route to a 10-6 victory. Every single Lake County starter scored at least one run in the ball game.
Each team got on the board in the first inning. Lake County scored two runs in the top half of the opening frame, but Hagerstown was able to cut the lead in half with one of their own in the bottom half.
Shortstop Dan Lyons reached on a walk and advanced to second on a ground ball by Bill Rhinehart. Third basemen Stephen King stroked one into left field to bring around Lyons and keep it close for the Suns.
Hagerstown took the lead in the second inning. Designated hitter Tim Pahuta blasted his sixth home run of the year to deep right center to tie the ball game. The Suns then took the lead thanks to a Captains error that scored Mark Gildea who reached on a walk.
The Suns extended the lead to 5-2 with another home run and more fireworks from Pahuta. King hit his third long ball of the year into the Suns bullpen. Michael Burgess was hit by a pitch and then stole second. With Burgess in scoring position, Pahuta brought him around with a double off the centerfield wall.
Lake County would take over in the middle innings. The Captains scored eight runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings combined. The Suns did not help themselves out during that time with two errors, a passed ball, and a wild pitch.
In his first appearance back in Hagerstown, Terrence Engles (3-1) takes the loss. Captains reliever Jonathan Holt (2-4) picked up the win.
The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
