Quinn Stewart Returns to Columbus

Columbus, GA - The Catfish have received OF Quinn Stewart and 2B Chase Fontaine from Vero Beach. To make room for them, the Rays have released 2B James Mayer and OF Jackson Brennan.

Stewart, a member of the 2007 South Atlantic League Champion Catfish, hit .251 with 21 home runs and 63 runs batted in to go with 21 stolen bases. Stewart was one of only 11 minor leaguers to have a 20/20 season. At Vero Beach, Stewart was hitting .189 with 4 home runs, 18 runs batted in and 4 stolen bases.

Fontaine is in his first year in the Rays organization after being traded with Willy Aybar from the Atlanta Braves for Jeff Ridgway. Fontaine is no stranger to the South Atlantic League, as he spent most of the season with Rome last year, hitting .288 with 3 home runs and 26 runs batted in. Fontaine was splitting time with former Catfish Joey Callender at second base at Vero Beach and was hitting .217 with 4 doubles.

Mayer appeared in 8 games with the Catfish and went 1-23 (.043) at the plate.

Brennan, who was added to the Catfish when Emeel Salem went down with an elbow injury, hit.189 with 10 walks in 53 at-bats for the Catfish. Brennan was 3rd on the Catfish in on-base percentage at .338.

The Catfish conclude their homestand tonight against the Savannah Sand Gnats before embarking on a 7 game roadtrip through Georgia against Rome and Savannah.

The Catfish are the Class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
