Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE - The Tourists weathered a four-run Hickory barrage in the first inning and rallied back for the second night in a row to defeat the Hickory Crawdads 5-4. The Tourists took three of four from the Crawdads in this home and home series and have now won 11 of their last 12 games.
With the game knotted at four in the fourth inning, Kevin Clark led off the inning with his fifth home run of the season to give the Tourists a lead they would not relinquish. The Tourists pitching shut down the 'Dads for the second night in a row through the middle and final innings of the ballgame.
Sheng-An Kuo (7-3) hung on to pitch five innings after giving up four extra base hits in the first inning. Miles Durham and Andrew Walker both hit two-run home runs to give Hickory a four spot. The Tourists then struck back with five unanswered runs over the next four innings.
Michael Mitchell doubled in Everth Cabrera, then scored on Darin Holcomb's sacrifice fly to give Asheville a pair in the first inning. The Tourists would tie things up an inning later on Helder Velazquez's two-run blast to left field - his fifth of the season - to set up Clark's go-ahead blast in the fourth.
Kuo yielded four runs in the effort, as Hickory picked up baserunners frequently with eight hits and four walks. The Taiwan native lacked the knockout punch all night as he did not record a strikeout in his five innings of work. Joey Williamson, Craig Baker and Randall Taylor shutout the 'Dads the rest of the night on just two hits, with Taylor picking up his league-leading 21st save in the ninth.
Rafael De Los Santos (2-4) picked up the loss for Hickory firing five innings and giving up all five runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning four Tourists.
Greenville will come to town for a three-game series beginning Friday night at McCormick Field. The Tourists will send ace Jhoulys Chacin (9-1, 1.84) to the hill in search of his tenth win of the year while the Drive will counter with lefty Jose Alvarez (3-7, 6.45).
Sophie Magazine and Asheville Regional Airport will present another Ladies Night with ladies receiving dollar wines all night long and five dollar admission with the coupon found in Sophie Magazine. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on the Tourists flagship station WRES-FM.
The Asheville Tourists are the Single-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Tickets are available by contacting the front office at (828)-258-0428 or on the website, www.theashevilletourists.com.
