
Former Admiral Poapst to take part in opening night ceremony

NORFOLK, VA â Today, the Norfolk Admirals announced that former Hampton Roads and Norfolk Admiral Steve Poapst will be part of a ceremonial puck drop prior to their opening game of the 2004-05 campaign on Friday, October 15.
The former Norfolk defenseman will accompany Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Matthew Walker, representing the U.S.S. Enterprise, for the puck drop before the Admirals take on the Hershey Bears at 7:30 p.m.
Poapst played at Scope with the Hampton Roads Admirals (ECHL) from 1991-1993. He was a member of the 1992 ECHL champion Admirals squad and posted a career high 45 points (10+35) during the 1992-93 season. The Cornwall, ON, also appeared in 37 games with the Norfolk Admirals in 2000-01, registering nine points (1+8) before being recalled to the Chicago Blackhawks, where he has played ever since.
In 245 NHL career games with Chicago and the Washington Capitals, Poapst has eight goals, 23 assists and 31 points.
