
Jody Shelley Returns For Opening Night

Syracuse, NY (October 13, 2004) â The Syracuse Crunch announced today that former star Jody Shelley (Columbus Blue Jackets) will join Adrian Aucoin (NY Islanders defenseman), Doug MacLean (Columbus Blue Jackets President and General Manager) George McPhee (Washington Capitals Vice President and General Manager), Tyson Nash (Phoenix Coyotes left wing) and Reggie Savage (Toledo Storm player/assistant coach) in kicking off their second decade of hockey in Syracuse, by participating in a special pregame ceremony during the Crunch's Express Mart Opening Night on October 15 vs. St. John's.
Following the ceremony Aucoin, Nash, Savage and Shelley will be available, during the first intermission to meet with Crunch fans and sign autographs.
Shelley is a veteran of 197 career NHL games, all with Columbus, recording 7 goals, 10 assists and 693 penalty minutes. He led the NHL in penalty minutes during the 2002-03 season with 249. One of the most popular players in franchise history, Shelley appeared in 91 games with Syracuse during the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons, recording four goals, 12 assists and 522 penalty minutes. He led the AHL, setting a Crunch record for penalty minutes in a season, recording 357 PIM's in 2000-01.
A native of Thompson, Manitoba, Shelley was originally signed by Calgary on September 1, 1998 before signing contracts with Syracuse (September 15, 2000) and Columbus (January 31, 2001).
The Crunch's regular season home schedule begins on Friday, October 15, when the St. John's Maple Leafs visit the War Memorial at Oncenter for the Express Mart Opening Night. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a hand-clapper noisemaker, compliment of Express Mart.
