Ford Poised to Make Admirals History Friday

April 11, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Milwaukee, WI - When the puck is dropped on Friday night's Admirals game in Grand Rapids, defensemen Scott Ford will be putting himself into the history books by playing his 295th game with the team. This will make Ford the Admirals All-Time AHL games played leader, breaking the record held by former teammate Kelsey Wilson.

The British Columbia native was a member of the Milwaukee Admirals for four seasons, 2008-12, before making a move to the Peoria Rivermen at the beginning of this season. In that period of time he played 279 games for the team. That put him fourth all-time in the AHL history of the organization behind Nolan Yonkman (283), Darren Haydar (293), and Wilson (294).

"He's the ultimate team guy," said Admirals forward Mark Van Guilder. "He has a great sense of humor, everyone loved him, and he would stand up for anyone on the ice. Off the ice he was a great example by the way he carried himself, by the way he prepared, and by the way he played every night."

Since being acquired in February, Ford has brought the calming influence and leadership expected of the man who captained the Admirals during the 2011-12 season. The team has gone 13-7-1-0 since the trade with Peoria and currently sits on the cusp of making the playoffs for an eleventh consecutive season.

By rejoining the Admirals Ford has been able to surpass the aforementioned names in the AHL history of the team. He has dressed for fifteen contests this season as a member of the Ads and, barring something unforeseen, will play his record setting 295th game as an Admiral this Friday in Grand Rapids.

You can listen along to this historical game live Friday night on 1250 WSSP . The game starts at 6:00pm CST and you can listen into Aaron Sims' pre-game show at 5:30pm CST.
