Houston Aeros News Release

Houston, TX - The Houston Aeros are proud to announce that Drew Bagnall has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Houston community during the 2012-13 season.

As the captain of the team, Bagnall leads the charge on and off the ice. In October, the Aeros defenseman contributed to the team's partnership with the Human Society, encouraging fans to get out and adopt homeless dogs and cats. The Manitoba native also led the way in November, spearheading the team's efforts in MOVEMBER, where the players grow moustaches for charity to raise awareness for cancers that affect men. In December, he was instrumental in getting the entire team to go out to the Texas Children's Hospital.

The Aeros defenseman also helped the team partner with the Houston Aeros Booster Club to support the Kids Unlimited Foundation. Kids Unlimited Foundation is a non-profit organization formed to benefit children stricken with cancer. In March, the Aeros captain led the charge by providing Aeros autographed memorabilia for a silent auction. On top of auction items, Bagnall grabbed a collection of donations on behalf of the players to add to the Fundraising Event hosted by the booster club. In all, the event raised over $9,500 for Kids Unlimited. Bagnall and his teammates also attended an Easter Event for Kids Unlimited, which included over 50 children. He has regularly helped facilitate player appearances and has gone on numerous school visits with his teammates.

Bagnall is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2012-13 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League on Apr. 18.

Houston continues a ten-game home stand with San Antonio on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The game marks a "Thirsty Thursday", where fans (21 and older) receive a "second drink free coupon" for The Maple Leaf Pub (Smith and Elgin). The first 500 fans to The Maple Leaf Pub after the game will be able to redeem their coupon for their second drink free. Saturday, the Aeros will host their final regular season home game of the 2012-13 season. The team will celebrate Fan Appreciation night with a 7:05 p.m. face off against San Antonio at Toyota Center.
