Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The Adirondack Phantoms are proud to announce that Zack FitzGerald has been named the team's winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions to the Glens Falls and North Country communities during the 2012-13 season.

Zack FitzGerald, who is affectionately called Fitzy by the fans, has gone above and beyond in serving the Adirondack community. The Twin Harbors, Minn. resident has made many appearances at local radio shows, youth hockey practices, schools, post game skates with the fans, and autograph sessions. Zack has dedicated his own spare time after the team's practices to have one-on-one hockey clinics with kids and has truly become a fan favorite.

A local business owner even created a large banner in support of 'Fitzy' after Zack slid a puck to his two young daughters and interacted with them through the glass as he sat in the penalty box.

His signature phrase this year says it all: "It's all about the fans!" Zack has also raised money for charity. His desire to help the community is showcased during live post-game jersey auctions as he personally auctions off his own jersey taking the mic and adding his own comedic flair to help drive up the bidding for the worthy causes. These actions have helped raised funds for cancer research and homeless adolescence.

The Phantoms are proud to congratulate Zack FitzGerald as the team's 2012-2013 IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year because he is always happy to represent the Phantoms organization and the American Hockey League positively in the community.

Zack FitzGerald is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL's 2012-13 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League on Apr. 18.

Adirondack opens a five-game homestand on Friday night against the Northeast Division Champion Springfield Falcons with $2 Draft-Beer specials. The Phantoms will play three home games in three days that weekend, the only time this season they will play a three-in-three entirely at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Saturday is Dan Miner Bobblehead Night for the first 2,500 fans featuring a post-game concert. Sunday at 3:00 is World Record Day against the Binghamton Senators as the Phantoms' Fans will attempt to set an actual world record...for longest On-Ice Conga Line On Skates. We need you fans to bring your skates for this one!! Call the Phantoms for tickets at 518-480-3355.
