Florida Panthers Ink Pair to Entry-Level Contracts

SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers Executive VP & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has signed C Nick Bjugstad to an entry level contract.

"We are extremely pleased to have signed Nick," said Tallon. "He is a young, talented and physical forward that excelled during his time at the University of Minnesota. Nick is one of our top prospects who has great vision at both ends of the ice and possesses a strong hockey sense. We look forward to his continued development as he takes this next step in his hockey career."

Bjugstad, 20, led Minnesota to the NCAA West Regionals this year, scoring 21 goals with 15 assists in 40 games played for the Gophers this season. He was tied for eighth among NCAA scoring leaders with 21 goals and was named to the All-WCHA Third Team. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound center completes his collegiate career play with 109 games scoring 54 goals with 44 assists, earning three consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament.

During his sophomore campaign, Bjugstad was named to the All-WCHA First Team, leading the Gophers with 25 goals, while ranking fifth in the nation. He helped Minnesota advance to the Frozen Four losing to the eventual champion Boston College.

The Blaine, Minnesota native was named as the club's rookie of year after registering 20 points (8-12-20) in 29 games played during his first season as a Gopher.

On the international level, Bjugstad has twice represented the United States at the World Junior Championships (2011 & 2012). He scored the game-winning goal to secure the Bronze medal for Team USA in 2011.

Bjugstad was drafted by Florida in the first round (19th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
