Pirates Sign James Melindy to Amateur Tryout Contract

Portland, Maine - Phoenix Coyotes Assistant General Manager and Portland Pirates General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that the Portland Pirates have signed defenseman James Melindy to an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO).

Melindy, a 6 foot 3, 186 pound native of St. John's, Newfoundland, spent the last three seasons with the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL. In 67 games with Moncton this season, the 19 year old Melindy registered 4 goals and 20 assists to go with 90 penalty minutes. Melindy has skated in 168 games for Moncton, tallying 17 goals and 39 assists and leading the Wildcats' defensemen in scoring for the 2011-12 season.

Melindy was selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 3rd round (88th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft
