Florence Y'alls News Release

(Washington, PA) - The Washington Wild Things (32-19) got an outstanding performance from their bullpen as they knocked off the Florence Freedom (21-28) by a final score of 5-1 Sunday night.

With the loss the Freedom fall to 10 games back of Washington in the east division and suffer their first road sweep of the season.

Florence grabbed the early lead against Washington starter Scott Dunn as Joe Staley hit his team-leading seventh home run of the season to lead-off the second inning.

But the Wild Things rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the second against Chuck Weaver (4-3) on a Sam Montgomery RBI single.

A Montgomery RBI fielder's choice gave them the lead in the fourth and they never looked back.

Washington tallied two more in the fifth on a Stewart Ijames RBI single and a Garrett Rau RBI fielder's choice to make it 4-1 in favor of the Wild Things.

Weaver took the loss, going five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out four.

Meanwhile the Wild Things brought in Shawn Blackwell (6-1) after Dunn went three innings and Blackwell went five innings of one-hit, shutout ball.

Washington added an insurance run in the eighth on a Daniel Poma RBI single.

The Freedom only recorded two hits after the third inning, an Adam Taylor double in the eighth and a Rob Kelly single in the ninth.

The Freedom have the All-Star break coming up Monday through Thursday. Their next regular season game is Friday in Avon, Ohio against the Lake Erie Crushers. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and all the action can be heard on http://www.allinbroadcasting.com/Florence.html.
