Evansville Otters News Release
(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - Evansville Otters LHP Chad James has had his contract purchased by the Texas Rangers of the American League on Sunday. James is the 62nd Otter to be signed by affiliated baseball.
James threw the first no-hitter in the 20-year history of the Evansville Otters (1724 games) on Wednesday, July 9. He struck out a career-high 14 batters in the 10-0 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums. James was 4-2 this season for Evansville with 67 strikeouts, second most in the Frontier League.
"Chad has done everything he needed to do to get this opportunity with the Rangers," said Otters manager Andy McCauley. "He has worked hard to improve while he has been here and we couldn't be happier for him. We wish him the best of luck."
James is a former first round pick of the Florida Marlins in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft. He played three seasons with the Marlins, reaching as high as Jupiter (MIA, A+) in 2012. He is excited for the promotion back to affiliated baseball.
"It has been an amazing opportunity to play with the Otters," said James. "I'm super pumped about starting my career with the Rangers."
James was also complimentary of his teammates and staff here in Evansville.
"The team here is awesome and I couldn't have asked for more," added James. "I want to thank Andy for believing in me. It was great to play for Andy and he always had my back. It's hard to find teammates like the ones I have here with the Otters. I know the team will continue to do well without me and I'm looking forward to them winning a championship."
The Otters are now in the Frontier League All-Star break.
Evansville will return at home on Friday, July 18 to begin a three-game series against the Southern Illinois Miners at Bosse Field. It is Frito Lay Night at the ballpark with first pitch set for 6:35 pm CDT.
Fans can call 812-435-8686 for tickets. The game will be broadcast live on WUEV 91.5 FM beginning at 6:15 pm.
