Rockford Aviators News Release
LOVES PARK, IL - The Rockford Aviators, presented by Pearson, split the double-header with the Frontier Greys as they wrapped up the first half of the season.
Game 1
The Frontier Greys got on the board early and never looked back as they defeated the Aviators 4-1 in the first game of the double-header.
In the top of the first inning, Joe Rapp had a RBI double that scored Cameron Monger and Rapp came in to score on a throwing error by Danny Gonzalez to make the score 2-0.
The Greys starting pitcher, Keith Picht, had an outstanding start for the Greys as he allowed just one hit through the first five innings.
In the top of the fifth, the Aviators showed signs of life as Michael Hur picked up his first RBI of the season, driving in Mason Morioka to cut the lead to 2-1. The Aviators then loaded the bases, but were unable to score as Kenny Bryant grounded out to first base, ending the inning.
Rapp wasn't done with the big hits for the Greys as he added a pair of insurance runs for the Greys in the top of the seventh inning with his eleventh home run of the season, a two run shot, to make the score 4-1. Rapp finished the game going 2-3 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs.
Ryan Zimmerman was credited with the loss as he allowed two runs on six hits while walking three and striking out three. He is now 2-4 on the year with a 3.07 ERA.
Game 2
The Aviators certainly found their offense in the second game of the double-header as they pounded the Greys 12-1.
The Greys scored their only run of the game in the top of the first inning as Jon Minucci doubled to score Monger.
The Aviators used an eight run fourth inning to put the game out of reach at 12-1.
Brian Bistagne finished the night 3-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. He finished the series with eight RBIs.
Ryan Breen also had a career-high four hits as he also drove in three RBIs and scored a run for the Aviators.
The Aviators will have the next three days off for the All-Star Break, but will return home on July 17 to open up a three-game series with the Schaumburg Boomers beginning at 7:05 p.m. The gates will open at 6:05 p.m. and fans can purchase tickets online at www.rockfordaviators.com or by calling the ticket office at 815-885-2255.
