CornBelters Shut out at Traverse City

Traverse City, Mich. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, were shut out for the first time this season in a 4-0 loss to the Traverse City Beach Bums on Sunday at Wuerfel Park.

The Beach Bums struck first in their opening inning, reaching Belters starter Cullen Babin with a towering two-run homer that left the park beyond right field by Sean Gusrang and an RBI double by Jovan Rosa for quick 3-0 lead before the first out.

The Bums added to their total in the second inning by loading the bases with two walks and a single, followed by an RBI base hit by Jovan Rosa and a 3-6-1 double play to hold the damage to one run for a 4-0 count.

Bums starter Alex Phillips (1-5) worked six innings for the win, giving up six hits while walking one and striking out three. Babin (5-3) took the loss, lasting four innings with eight hits, four walks and no strikeouts while surrendering four runs.

The Belters are off for the Frontier League All-Star break until Friday when they return home to begin a nine-game home stand starting with the Frontier Greys. The Belters host Washington and Lake Erie for the remaining six games of the home stand that continues through Saturday, July 26. The CornBelters enter the break with a record of 26-24 for fourth place in the Frontier League West Division.
