Joliet Slammers News Release

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-went to extra innings to defeat Schaumburg 7-4 on Sunday.

Schaumburg scored twice in the 1st inning against Joliet starter Colin Gotzon. Joe DePinto had a big day for the Boomers and it started with his 2-run single early. The Slammers picked up an RBI single from Seth Granger in the 2nd to score Adam Giacalone who had singled. That made it 2-1 in the 2nd inning. The Slammers then took the lead with a 2-run 3rd as Giacalone walked with the bases loaded and another run scored on an error. It became 4-2 in the 6th when Jake Gronsky singled in Jose Garcia. DePinto's RBI single in the bottom of the 6th kept the Boomers hopes alive in the bottom of the 6th and made it 4-3. It stayed 4-3 until the bottom of the 9th. David Kubiak made his Joliet debut out of the bullpen and after a double from Bobby Martin, Tyler Sciacca's sacrifice fly tied the game at 4-4 sending the game to extra innings. In the top of the 10th Joliet executed perfectly to take the lead. Seth Granger walked and Gronsky singled. Adam Lewis pushed them to 2nd and 3rd with a sacrifice bunt and then Max Casper scored Granger with a perfect suicide squeeze bunt. After Chris Epps walked for the 3rd time in the game, Russell Moldenhauer ripped a 2-run double to make it a 7-4 Slammers lead. Kubiak then retired the 1st two men in the bottom of the 10th on strikeouts. But after a walk, an error and another walk, the bases were loaded. Alexi Colon then flew out to center to end the ballgame and give the Slammers the victory. Granger finished with 3 hits as did Gronsky. Lewis added two doubles to go with his two sacrifice bunts. The win means Joliet splits the four-game series with the Boomers.
